Improving Your Equestrian Performance through Pilates

  • Encore Stables 7359 Brown's Bridge Road Fulton, MD 20759 USA (map)

In this two-hour in person workshop participants will learn what Pilates is and how it can help them improve their riding technique through proper spinal and pelvic alignment. Participants will learn about common postural misalignments that can be improved through the practice of Pilates to restore muscular strength and balance, and increased body and kinesthetic awareness. Emphasis will be placed on the basic principles of effort and relaxation and optimal body integration. This workshop includes a 45-minute Pilates practice targeting all muscles on the body while maintaining correct alignment to produce controlled precise movement and increased mobility in the joints. Specific exercises using the pilates ball will be taught to improve equestrian performance. The practice will end with a systematic sequence of stretches designed to restore length and flexibility to muscles, joints and spine.
